@bangemsmurff shut the fuck up, you don't need to compete to be a great fighter. he was a military combatives instructor, I think he is definitely qualified. |

I would not be so sure
sure he is a no holds barr combat intructor and he has good solid skills
but Evandar took on the beast Iron Mike and it not like Evandar could not do a low kick or a sweep move |

Could be, but if there's no documented footage of him in real man to man combat, I think its unfair to say he would beat Holyfield..which has tons of documented wars..its like saying Leonard is better than every other boxer ever.
its the same type of discussion you have with Bruce Lee followers..oh he can beat this and that..because someone said he was in many streetfights in Honkong and beat other martial artists...fine ! but show me a real fight with him then lets talk. Theres to much TALK ! |

Yeah but Leonard was a soldier and was in combat. Isn't that the same, or even more than what Evander has done?
Being in REAL combat makes you rely on instinct, reflex, and everything Evander had to do.
On top of that, Leonard is no softy mcdojo martial artist. He's not where he is today unless he was a REAL fighter.
Not only that, hes done Shotokan karate and that shits ruff !!! And is a master at another form. Speed and reflex are vital in those too. |

Yea but isnt this video more or less another guy who once again says that anyone doing karate, bujido, kaywado, ching chung, or whatever, can beat any boxer with ease ? btw, Tim Silvya just got koed by a good old fashioned right cross. |

YEah, but Evander could also punch those places. you think that just because he is a boxer he dont know how to punch someone in his nuts ? |

BringerOfTheTruth
Yea but he is a world class boxer...a heavyweight champion..a fight is very much about reflexes and speed, and he has them (or had them). Imagine all the fights he has been in..fights are very different from gym sparring. |

Its common sense. Leonard knows throws, kicks, joint locks, wrestling, and of course: boxing.
Evander knows what? Boxing, thats it.
Leonard is a soldier and if there is no rules, he would eat Evander. |

If Leonard has fought in MMA and won many fights then he would most propably win over Evander.
But my guess is he is just another one of those who pretend they are the shit but too pussy to prove it in the cage kind of guys. You know, the ones who advertise in Black belt magazine with all these ''street lethal systems''.
Evander would put him to sleep in no time. |

Leonard Holifield has a series of dvds on the Century Fitness website; they're being sold for something silly like ten bucks a pop. I think they're a real bargain. They're part of the old Panther Video series, so they have too much repetition, but they have a lot of useful and direct technique. Are they perfect? No, bu they sure are better than most martial arts materials floating around, even though they have weaknesses becauses of their age. The attacker chambers first, for instance. |

I don't see anywhere, where Leonard Holfield challenged Evander to any type of fight. I believe that the question was just raised by someone as to who would win such a fight. If I had to chose, I'd put my money on Prof. Holifield simply because he has the strength, stamina and power that Evander has, plus Prof. Holifield's combat system and style of fighting has no rules! A strike to Evanders groin, throat, kneecap or spine would surely put a quick end to the fight. |

in a hypothetical situation evander has a few things going for him, very heavy strikes and very quick strikes. his disadvantage comes if leonard manages to take him down where the superior striking learned from boxing is somewhat negated. The real thing to realise is that it would likely be a short fight thus negating the boxer's superior stamina and staying power. a takedown and a strike to the throat, evander goes down, a well placed hook and leonard goes down. I'd put the odds at 50/50. |

Another guy claiming that a Boxer would always beat a martial arts expert (a truly one)... that was the same thing all people said back on 1993 before the first UFC competition (the only UFC event with practically no rules). But then they realized the true power of martial arts when master in Jujitsu Royce Gracie beat skilled and heavier boxers than him. Did you know that Leonard used to teach those same Jujitsu techniques to the military, along with many other martial arts? |

Not saying that Holifield isn't good in his own right as a martial artist, but saying that he would beat Evander Holyfield in a street fight is not proveable and is an attempt to create an urban legend...and an attempt to ride the great Evander's success. |

They're just trying to hype this guy up and steal some of the real Holyfield's shine as one of the greatest fighters of all time. If the guy was so great, I'm sure he would've COMPETED and become a WORLD CHAMPION on his own merits, rather than riding his famous cousin's coattails and implying that since Holyfield was a great boxer, then he's the equivalent as a street fighter and martial artist. |

In a street fight, Evander would ktfo that guy very quickly. The guy's only hope would be to land a leg kick first, and hope the kick renders Holyfield unable to punch him while standing on 2 feet. And if they ended up on the ground, the guy would need to land on top because Holyfield would ktfo him with a punch (or headbutt, lol) on the ground too. |

Sometimes a name gets spelled wrong on a birth certificate... Sometimes someone prefers a different spelling than their relatives had... Sometimes athletes/entertainers spell their name in a way to make it easier to read or remember. Changing the "i" to a "y" makes it look the way it sounds and it matches Evander's reputation as a religious man. There are probably other reasons why the last names are spelled different, but those are a few. |
