George Foreman (Boxer) : Stronger Than Before

George Edward Foreman (born January 10 1949) is an American two-time World Heavyweight Boxing Champion. He is the oldest man ever to win the heavyweight title (at 45 when he KO`d the then 26-year old Michael Moorer in the 10th round) and also has been named one of the 25 greatest fighters of all time by Ring magazine. Nicknamed "Big George" he is now a successful businessman and an ordained Christian minister who has his own church. In the summer of 1974 Foreman traveled to Congo (then Zaire) where he Lost to former champ Muhammad Ali .. The Rumble in the Jungle. When Foreman and Ali finally met in the ring Ali started on his toes dancing around as advertised. Such was the intensity of Foreman's attack though that he was soon driven into the ropes. The ring ropes were looser than normal allowing Ali to lean back and away from Foreman's wild swings and then maul him in a clinch forcing Foreman to expend extra energy untangling himself. An increasingly-confident Ali taunted Foreman throughout the bout and by the eighth round was in control of the fight. Late in that round Ali sprang off the ropes with a sudden flurry of blows to Foreman's head punctuated by a hard right cross that landed flush on Foreman's jaw. Foreman staggered lurched and collapsed overcome as much by exhaustion as Ali's punching power. He managed to regain his feet but the referee stopped the bout. It was Foreman's first defeat and Muhammad Ali would remain the only boxer to defeat him by a knockout throughout his two-phased career although Ron Lyle and Jimmy Young did manage to floor him in later bouts. In a later match Foreman became ill in his dressing room after the fight. He was suffering from exhaustion and heatstroke and believed he had a near death experience. He claimed he found himself in a hellish frightening place of nothingness and despair. He began to plead with God to help him. He explained that he sensed God asking him to change his life and ways. After this experience Foreman became a born-again Christian dedicating his life for the next decade to Christianity. Although never formally retiring from boxing Foreman stopped fighting became an ordained minister of a churc in Houston Texas and devoted himself to his family and his parishioners. He also opened a youth center that bears his name. In 1994 Foreman once again sought to challenge for the world championship after Michael Moorer had beaten Holyfield for the IBF and WBA titles. The fight took place on November 5 in Las Vegas Nevada with Foreman wearing the same red trunks he had worn in his title loss to Ali 20 years earlier. This time however Foreman was a substantial underdog. For nine rounds Moorer easily outboxed him hitting and moving away while Foreman chugged forward seemingly unable to "pull the trigger" on his punches. Entering the tenth round Foreman was trailing on all scorecards. Then suddenly a short right hand caught Moorer on the tip of his chin gashing open his bottom lip and he collapsed to the canvas. He lay flat on his back as the referee counted him out. Just like that Foreman had regained the title he had lost to Muhammad Ali two decades before. He went back to his corner and knelt in prayer as the arena erupted in cheers. With this historic victory Foreman broke two records: he became at age 45 the oldest fighter ever to win the world heavyweight crown; and 20 years after losing his title for the first time he broke the record for the fighter with the longest interval between one world championship and the next. RECORD: 81 contests. Won 76 (KO 68) + lost 5 (KO 1) To dream the impossible dream To fight the unbeatable foe To bear with unbearable sorrow To run where the brave dare not go To right the unrightable wrong To love pure and chaste from afar To try when your arms are too weary To reach the unreachable star This is my quest To follow that star No matter how hopeless No matter how far To fight for the right Without question or pause To be willing to march into Hell For a heavenly cause And I know if I'll only be true To this glorious quest That my heart will lie peaceful and calm When I'm laid to my rest And the world will be better for this That one man scorned and covered with scars Still strove with his last ounce of courage To reach the unreachable star

bandit7498 Can't deny the punching power of Foreman. Look at how little effort he seems to put in the right that drops Moorer. Like getting hit by a bus. 07/19/2010 - 18:34:40
ScottInVa1760 I met Foreman when he came to Yorktown, VA for a Meineke promo in 2002. I was stunned by his humble, almost meek, demeanor. He seems as nice a guy in real life as he comes across on TV. He's a truly great American man. BTW, his fists are absolutely massive! 07/08/2010 - 04:38:17
janis041964 He was a great one!!!!!! In his prime, he would knocked out all of the Klitschko`s etc... in the first three rounds! 07/02/2010 - 02:03:50

mootle661 @hystrungified Are you kidding!? He looked knackered aftertwo rounds of effortlessly whoopin' Frazier's ugly ass around, 8 rounds of going abosolutely crazy on Ali? No surprise he had nothing in the tank. Fast count? The ref was right to stop the fight, Foreman was totally aware of the canvas as he was going down, just couldn't do anything about. Foreman's accepted he was beaten by the best, why don't you? 05/17/2010 - 03:46:42

EldestSauce Foreman was not even closed to being knocked out. He was just waiting for his corner to tell him to get up. 03/21/2010 - 17:59:06
levizer Yeah, i totally agree. But I weren't talking about prime vs. prime. I'm talking about "comeback-Foreman" not "prime-Foreman". 02/15/2010 - 07:59:48
HanzBlitz1 Dude you do know Tyson in '85 was still 18 and wouldn't have stood a chance right! His best year was without a doubt 1989 that was the Mythical Prime Mike Tyson, and any fool that wants to bring up a Prime vs Prime, 1973 George Foreman would've absolutely KILLED Prime Mike Tyson 02/15/2010 - 01:50:28
hystrungified foreman was drugged b4 the fight with ali so that his stamina would decrease.. and if u watch another video about that fight. u will see how fast the reff counts from 8 to 10 wen foreman is already standing back up 02/13/2010 - 20:20:02
blaze3332 Boxing isent all about speed and Power its also about tatctics and muhammad ali showed that he possesed all three skills over his career 02/08/2010 - 22:15:51
levizer I agree, but if he had fought in a different way, not wasting his punching power, then Ali would have been dancing more cause he could still do that (he even could in 1981 fight Berbick) so it would have been a long fight and Ali could have won by decition since he was faster and were able to land more punches, but if Foreman were able to land a few great once then he would have won. He didn't fight Tyson since he went to prison, but he would have won in 1990, but I don't think in 1985 though. 02/07/2010 - 23:39:01
Robstailey i agree totally. in fact, i believe tyson dodged foreman a few times when he was on his comeback. i think a fight between them would go like the tyson v lewis. 02/04/2010 - 03:56:45
vicsfz1 In a weird way, I don't think that Ali beat Foreman in that Foreman beat himself. He made the critical mistake of underestimating his opponent and didn't work on his conditioning and strategy. I still believe had he done that, he would've beaten Ali, and on his comeback, could've beaten tyson himself. 01/26/2010 - 23:44:56
ws2family Butterbean? oh man.. why did you bring him up? 01/24/2010 - 21:14:00
